What If God Was One of Us: A Reflection on Gratitude in Broadcasting

Dugg’s Home Cooking has a question

“What If God Was One of Us: A Reflection on Gratitude in Broadcasting?”

The song “What If God Was One of Us,” performed by Joan Osborne and later by Prince and written by Eric Bazilian. I remember hearing this song on a episode of “Homicide”. Hmm! Homicide and What if God were just like one of us? These thoughts can be applied to many aspects of life, including the world of broadcasting. God, the Director, Producer and Unsung Hero.

The Unsung Heroes

In broadcasting, there are countless unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes. We offer our expertise and support, for little or no compensation because you are a friend and you wouldn’t screw your “boy or girl”, we just want to help bring your visions to life. It saddens us, that we believe in your product and your skills but you see us as just a scape goat. What are you thinking behind that smiling face? (Another topic for another day.)

The Divine Credit

Yet, it’s a common scenario: the individuals we help often attribute their success solely to themselves and God. Guess God never reminds them that we deserve payment and credit for a job done well? They thank God for their achievements and thank others who have just started to help although you been there from the ground up.

It is amazing how people who owe you money looks for their blessing but somehow forget you have a business, a family or you were there when very few or no one would help them. I guess I missed that part of the Bible.

The Reality of Success

Success in broadcasting, much like in any other field or life, is rarely achieved alone. It requires a team of dedicated professionals who work diligently to ensure every detail is perfect. But it is saddened and amazing how anyone can still owe people money and act like they are church going people (maybe they should read and understand what they are reading).

A Final Thought

Like the songs says:

If God had a face what would it look like? And would you want to see If seeing meant that you would have to believe

And there is the problem: What would you see if you just understood the words!!!
